Nov 29: 13th Iranian National Earthquake Drill

Tomorrow: 13th Earthquake National Drill in Iran: by IIEES:
13 million School Children will attend in a national drill designed and planned by my colleagues in IIEES and will be implemented by the collaboration of Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Interior, Iranian Red Crescent, and Iranian National Radio and Television (IRIB). This is an important practice for a country like Iran, having such an important level of Earthquake Risk.

in Van Kriz Merkezi, Van Crisis Center

In AFAD, Sivil Savuma (civil defence) Kriz Merkezi, Van, we are told that the total victims who are reported by hospital resources, are 644 people (477 in Ercis). 222 people are rescued from debris. The number of search abd rescue staff 476 team 3503 personals attended in the maibshock of 23 Oct 2011. In the second event (9 nov aftershock) 36 team and 896 personals had eorked as search and rescue.
The number of Tent was 71000 , installed.
128000 people used the food support from Kriz Merkezi.
The total of about 3 to 5% of injured had the problem in a body member for which a member cut was neccesary in order to rescue them.
The goverment body to make search and rescur is Sivil Savuma and Kizilay us responsible for temporary setellment and first aids. There are some other minor (private) search and rescue bodies like Acut and ...
Un village it mwas breathing problem after the event but in modern buildibg such problem was less. However the concrete structures have been demolished, suffered from a sandwich collaps, there left almost no or vety few hope to resuce people.

in the Van General Hospital

Van University Hospital.
The Van Hospital Construction started in 2008 and started to work in the end of September 2011, one month before earthquake. The hospital is restarted to work 2 days after event (the staf left the hospital and feared to comeback within 48 hours). There are actually 3 fonctioning hospitals in Van.
5 private hospitals were working in Van before EQ. 15 engineers came to visit after the event.
First day of EQ 1000 injured people reffered to Van hospital and about 200 majorly injured people trasferred to other cities by ambulance and air ambulances.
1st day there prepared they prepared a field hospital (Sahra hastanesi).
After the 1st event they used the Sahra hastanesi.
There are 700 beds about 50 icu , 20 Hemodyalize, 30 beds for burned peoples.
The total death in hospital 35 peoples and some 100 might be passed awys after being transfer to other cities.
There was no damages to Gaz system, the electrical deficencies are reported.
After the earthquake all electricities facilities stoped, but repaired just after. Communation facilities became one way after event.

Report of 4th Day visit in Van, Turkey

4th day visit in Van region: the north Van area between north Van, Van Eskekesi, Bardakci, Zeve, Topaktas, and Citoren up to Mullakasim, is visted. The surface fissures are obvious around Zeve. There are some lateral spreadings and landslides around Topaktas. The fault surface ruptures are visible in the north of Bardakci towards the north of the Van university Campus (marking some surface displacements on the road and irrigation Channels). The Van Golu (lake) beach is visited in the morning of 20 Nov 2011, and a previous collapse of Sea Terras Clifs is visible, the collaps might be aincient (may be corresponding to shaking in 1664, 1935 (Van) or 1976 (Caldiran) earthquakes in this region.
Afternoon visit was concentrated on the citadel of Van, dated by about 2500 years Go, having a hirogliph historical writing possibly relating to Sirous, the Great. The citadel is renovated and partially reconstructed in 2010. The ancient city of Van in located in the south of the carbonate rock based Citadel, and evidently demolished. There is a wall in the east of the hill. There are some minor fissures on the walls of the citadel, due to the 23 oct 2011 Van earthquake.

روز سوم بازديد در منطقه زلزله زده وان ، به شمال دریاچه وان و شهر ارجیش رفتیم.، در ارجيش؛ تخريب شديد در ساختمانهاي ٥ و ٦ طبقه، حذف طبقه اي اول و دوم ساختمان، احتمالا اثر ساختگاه عامل اين تخريب زياد در حدرد ٥٠ كيلومتري كانون و در فراديواره گسل بوده به همراه اثر جهت پذيري به دليل تغيير مكان شديد در راستاي عمودبرگسل

در شهر ارجيش به نظر ميرسد كه دليل بيشتر خرابي ها (٥٠٠٠ ساختمان از ١٦٠٠٠ ساختمان ويران شده ) در ارجيش، واقع شدن شهر بروي يك ترراس آبرفت لسي و مساله اثر خاك، و مساله تشديد در پريود حدود نيم ثانيه
بوده است.

Reconnaissance Visit to Van Earthquake (23 Oct 2011, Mw7.3)Prone area, Day-2

Day 2: Friday: 18 Nov. 2011:
2nd day in Van, We visited different districts of Van, a Semi-demilished mosque (Hz. Omer Jamii) and the main Square of Van (Cumhuriyet Meydani).

Van itself suffered from the 23 oct 2011 and nov 9 aftershock (they call it as 2nd earthquake, because it was the second destructive earthquake). There are mostly 5/6 story buldings in the city center and most demolished buildings are such type of structures. There might be an important site effect, as the case of the damages.

We will try to visit the area in the north of Van this afternoon in order to visit possible surface ruptures.

Reconnaissance Visit to Van Earthquake (23 Oct 2011, Mw7.3)Prone area, Day-1

Day-1: 17 Nov. 2011:
We just arrived in Van, Turkey, for a reconnaissance Visit to the Ercis (Van) Earthquake (23 Oct 2011, Mw7.3). We are a team, of IIEES, comprised from Myself, Dr Ehrahim Haghshenas and Dr Morteza Bastami.

we visited this afternoon the city center of Van and the location of some demolished buildings. it seems that there are some site effect reasons for some localized building collapses. Some buildings are not totally collapsed, however there are essentially out of order and ready to collapse (!) maybe by a following aftershock.

The people in Van are mostly the Kurds and Turks and all are very kind and ready to help us in any way they can. There is a problem of English speaking for communication, however one of our colleagues, Dr Bastami, is Iranian Kurd, and we may have a way of communication with a mixture of Kurd/Turk/Persian/English combination of words! and it works!!!

همکلاسی های من سلام – امروز که روز 7 / 7 / 1390 است ، تصمیم گرفتم اسامی دوستان دانشگاهی ام را که روزگاری _ بله واقعا 37 سال هم خودش یک روزگار طولانی است – قبل , مدتی را باهم در یک رشته و یک کلاس دانشگاهی درس خواندیم در اینجا بنویسم . ما دانشجویان روزانه ورودی سال 1353 از طریق کنکور سراسری بودیم که خواسته یا ناخواسته در رشته زمین شناسی دانشکده علوم دانشگاه تهران قبول شده بودیم و این فرصت را پیدا کردیم که مدت 4 سال در کنار هم روزهای خوش و خوبی را داشته باشیم . کلاس ما 30 نفر دانشجو داشت که 24 نفر آنها پسر بودند و 6 نفر هم دختر همکلاسی بودیم . دوتا از این دخترا چادری بودند و عضو انجمن اسلامی و خیلی از بقیه رو میگرفتند و در هیچیک از برنامه های دوستانه مشارکت نمیکردند و جداً می گویم که اسمشون رو بیاد ندارم . دخترها عبارت بودند از : 1- زهره افطسی 2- رویا لیوانی 3- شهربانو ملک زاده 4- بهجت یزدانی و همون دوتا دختر چادری که گفتم اسمشون یادم نیست . پسرها خوب تعدادشان زیادتر بودند و تا اونجا که بیادم مونده سعی میکنم اسماشون رو بنویسم : 1- سیروس اتردی 2- ناصر سعدالدین 3- اسماعیل احمدی 4- فروهر شایگانفر 5- رضا حمیدی 6- سرمد روزبه کارگر 7- محمدرضا عبدالهی 8- جمشید زندی 9- علیرضا طباطبایی 10- حسن جمالی 11- مجتبی صالحی 12- علی اصغر خسروجردی 13- شاکر آویشن 14- محمدحسن صفری 15- کاظم (جمشید ) رستمی 16- علی (امیر) شاهوردی طرخورانی 17- محمدرضا فرزاد افلاکیان 18- محمد کمیجانی 19- محمد دانش 20- همایون علمی سرابی 21- عزت الله اورعی 22- آقای 23- آقای 24- آقای .... دلیل اینکه اینبار سعی کردم اسم تعداد کثیری از بچه های کلاس رو بیاد بیارم و بنویسم اینه که سعی کنم اونها رو یکی یکی پیداشون کنم . تاکنون تعدادی از اونارو طی سال های گذشته جستجو و پیدا کردم و در مورد سرنوشت تعدادی از اونا هم اطلاعات ناگواری بدستم رسیده که می نویسم : حسن جمالی , شاکر آویشن و اسماعیل احمدی هریک بنا به دلایلی از دنیا رفته اند و من بطور اتفاقی در جریان درگذشت آنان قرار گرفتم . - شاکر آویشن - مثلاً یکروز که مشغول خواندن روزنامه در اداره آب سمنان بودم ، ناگهان چشمم به خبر تصادف مرگبار اتومبیل لندروز سازمان آب ایلام و مرگ شاکر آویشن کارشناس آن سازمان را دیدم . - اسماعیل احمدی که سه فرزند داشت و یکبار هم شانس دیدار با خانواده اش را داشتم , در اثر بیماری سرطان معده از دنیا رفت . - حسن جمالی هم در سال های قبل از 67 بعلت مرگ آنی از دنیا رفته بود . افراد مختلفی را که بمرور پیدا کردم عبارت بودند از : 1- سرمد روزبه کارگر کارشناس سازمان زمین شناسی کشور 2- ناصر سعدالدین از مدیران سازمان زمین شناسی کشور 3- فرزاد افلاکیان متخصص ژئوتکنیک در کالیفرنیا آمریکا 4- فروهر شایگانفر ساکن هامبورگ آلمان 5- علیرضا طباطبایی ساکن آمریکا 6- رویا لیوانی ساکن آمریکا 7- زهره افظسی ساکن تهران و نویسنده کتب آموزشی کودکان 8- کاظم رستمی تولیدکننده لوازم بهداشتی وسرامیک ساختمانی در تهران در سال اول ورود خیلی از بچه ها با جو دانشگاه آشنایی زیادی نداشتند ولی برخی از دوستان قدیمی به من توصیه کرده بودند که در صورت امکان نماینده کلاس بشوم و شاید از همان سال اول بود که در جریان یک انتخابات کلاسی ، من بعنوان نماینده کلاس برگزیده شدم و در تمام سالهای بعد کار های هماهنگی کلاس بامن بود و بلحاظ این نمایندگی گاهی مجبور به تندی با سایرین می شدم . دوران تحصیل دانشگاهی ما مصادف بود با سالهای پر تنش 54 و 55 و 56 و 57 که نهایتاٌ منجر به انقلاب شد و طبیعتاٌ در زمان تحصیل با مسایل مختلفی از قبیل فعالیت های خارج از برنامه , تعطیلی و یا برگزاری کلاس ها و اعتصابات و غیره مواجه بودیم که گاهی حتی بنا به مصلحت جمعی با همدیگر بحث های طولانی و زیادی داشتیم و من امیدوارم تک تک آن دوستان همکلاسی بدقلقی ها و تندی های مرا به من ببخشند . امروز 37 سال از سال ورودمان به دانشگاه می گذرد و همه ما به سن بالای 55 رسیده ایم و من دربدر بدنبال یافتن ردپایی از آن دوستان و همکلاسی های قدیمی هستم . محمد کمیجانی
